If the shoes fit – donate the box!
24 November 2017: Christmas is a time for giving and on International Children’s Day, 20 November, colleagues of BRI’s offices did just that and gave their time and help to assist the Samaritans Purse charity with Operation Christmas Child at their processing centre in Coventry.
BRI staff spent the day unloading the thousands of shoeboxes generously donated by local schools, churches and the general public, sorting them into gender and age groups to then be checked for any unsuitable items, replacing them with substitute toys, clothes and stationery that had been kindly donated. Once the shoeboxes were checked, BRI also assisted in packaging them up ready to be shipped across the globe to thousands of under privileged children in time for Christmas.
We thoroughly enjoyed supporting the charity and, despite the arctic conditions inside the warehouse, morale was kept high with the addition of Christmas jingles playing in the background and the warmness of seeing the many letters written by local children.
Operation Christmas Child do a fantastic job up and down the country every year and really make a difference to the lives of children who receive what may be their only present at Christmas time. If anyone would like to get involved or would like more information on what they do, please visit the website https://www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ or visit Operation Christmas Child on Facebook.
At BRI we pride ourselves on being able to help people in their time of need when they approach us with their problems. We are grateful that this day gave us a similar feeling of job satisfaction and we look forward to continuing to help people for many years to come.
