Sailing enthusiast Peter jumps in at the deep end
Having recently qualified as a Day Skipper local Insolvency Practitioner Peter Windatt refreshed his old dinghy sailing skills and volunteered to help with local charity MK Sailability, based at Caldecotte Lake.
MK Sailability has been established for over 20 years, its aims are to enable persons with differing forms of disability to actively participate in the sport of sailing. Members and novices of all ages are able to go out with qualified instructors, or experienced sailors like Peter, until they are confident and competent in handling a dinghy.
Having “learnt the ropes” the previous Saturday Peter went back for a Fun and Race day with BBQ on Friday 24 July. Some 30+ attendees battled the wintery conditions and won certificates to record their efforts in taking part. The next session is on 15th August and fortnightly thereafter until the end of September.
The club uses very stable dinghies and trimarans which can be sailed solo or in tandem depending on abilities. Go to www.mksc.org.uk/sailability.html for more information.
