Reaching the summit – Mount Snowdon

Reaching the summit – Mount Snowdon
Summit_sml_ADP4781One of our Coventry office team members, John Rimmer, joined Prime Chartered Accountants to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.  The climb up Mount Snowdon was a small step towards helping such a worthy cause and a first in terms of the mountain for John.  He says of the day…

“What started as a cloudy but pleasant morning at base camp put our group of 29 walkers to the test.  We’d been advised to bring good walking boots, waterproofs, hat, gloves and be prepared for a 10% chance of snow and below freezing winds at the summit.  Eventually I found a back pack big enough for all eventualities.  The initial uphill tarmac section was a comfortable and nice introduction to the rest of the day’s feat and within 5 minutes we’d all stopped to strip off down to one layer.  Off we went again.

After a while we reached the half way house (which we later realised felt a long way short of half way!) where we stopped to recharge, get a hot brew/soup and layer up.  The tales of woe plastered around the walls inside the half way house suggested that we might get caught out (weather wise) at the summit and that we ought to avoid wearing knee length skimpy dresses and sandals.  Fortunately I had avoided this.  Off we went again.

By 2 pm we were engulfed in clouds and meandering along a seemingly endless track.  Eventually we reached the summit although due to the surrounding mist and clouds the views were not to be.  Before we were blown off the mountain we swiftly made our way to the summit café (come bar/tourist shop/train station).

Refreshed, fed, watered and regrouped we stepped back outside to unfurl the charity banner, smile, have our picture taken (see below) and commence our descent.  As we did, the clouds parted, blue skies shone through and tremendous views of the Welsh valleys became apparent (as well as the sheer drops either side)!  This made our hard work all the more worth it.

A great day was had by all: team building, sharing stories and, most importantly, raising money for those in need.”
