The Helpful Insolvency Practitioner

The Helpful Insolvency Practitioner

The majority accept death and taxes as inevitable. Insolvency Practitioners though, like undertakers, we would prefer not to think about.

Local Practitioner, Peter Windatt, of BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency, seeks to dispel the myths and encourage those in difficulties to take advice – the earlier the better. His efforts were rewarded in 2010 with a garden party at Buckingham Palace, in 2011 he was awarded the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) prize for his outstanding contribution to their members’ networks and, most recently, his peers nominated him to the Power 100 – a list of the top 100 Influencers in the Insolvency Profession.

Wellingborough born he started working for the Official Receiver in Northampton in 1985.

Peter explained; “I loved the work and knew that I could make a difference if only the public – individuals and directors – knew how much help is available to those who ask.

My professional body, the ACCA, helped me in my career - I was very willing to give something back. I first helped the local members’ networks and then was asked stand for Council, where I served a 3 year term.

I knew I could do more and apply my insolvency knowledge. I was asked to join the Joint Insolvency Exams Board, which I now chair, and the board of IPR services, who appoint the members of the Insolvency Practices Council – the profession’s public watchdog. Having served the Insolvency Urgent Issues Committee I was asked to chair the ACCA’s new Insolvency Committee and to help with other groups with insolvency related issues – Business Law, SME’s etc.

I regularly lecture on Insolvency and do my best to ensure people get the best advice they can for themselves – not just another job for the Insolvency Profession. What we do is necessary – “Capitalism without Bankruptcy is like Christianity without Hell”, as Frank Borman said. However, with a little help and understanding we can put people’s fears into perspective and help them find a way out of their financial hell”.

Should you have any money worries, you are advised to seek help as early as possible from a reputable advisor. Please contact BRI to arrange a meeting or have an informal discussion. All initial meetings are strictly confidential, completely free of charge and without obligation.
