11 March 2016: What can you do to lift the spirits on a cold, foggy March evening in the run up to another austerity era budget?
What better than join some 144 of Northamptonshire’s finest for another BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency Northampton Professionals Quiz night at the Northampton Marriott Hotel.
36 teams of 4 entered and fought it out over 8 rounds of questions, based around various linked themes, together with two floating rounds. The questions, set by Dan Smith of the BRI Coventry office, sought to probe and test those attending for range and recall. The feedback has been great, including “best quiz ever” from a team that wasn’t even in one of the top slots! The event has become a firm fixture in the Northampton Professionals’ calendar and was again oversubscribed with some teams sadly unable to join the fun.
In a closely fought battle there was a 3 team tie for 3rd place, the tie-breaker being won by Exiles, a team from Grant Thornton, accountants, 2nd place went to Lamb and Holmes, solicitors, the glory and the main prizes went to Team Arrow, from Cobley Desborough, accountants who banished any pre-budget blues and won the day.
We suspect most other teams are now telling their colleagues that “they were in joint 3rd but lost out on the tie-breaker” but that is for them and their consciences – the buzz in the room was great, the bar did a roaring trade and the food that was served while the final scores were being worked out was much complemented too.
Being great at running quizzes is one thing, but our real strength is answering people’s insolvency queries. Whatever the problem we can help put things in perspective and, even where there isn’t likely to be a good answer, we will help find the least bad one, whatever the outcome for ourselves.
We are grateful to all who supported another great quiz night and also to all of those who have trusted us with their clients and contacts who have found themselves in financial troubles over the years.
